CONCEPT OF CALL

1) Reflect on your experience in using the computer in the course that you have taken.

• Research Methodology (ENGL 2999) : Students are introduced to SPSS program which is used for statistical analysis. The lecturer gave students guide by guide on how to use the software for data collection.

• Introduction to Psychology (PSYC 1000):  A lot of power point slides and videos are used in order for student to get a clear view on what is psychology is all about

• Novel and Short Story (ENGL 2515):  Internet allows students to retrieve many novels and short stories online which is time consuming and cost effective.

2) Relate the concepts in the three stages to that experience

• Throughout the studies, learning process are mostly communicative and integrative in nature, where communicative theory is about the learning process that does not necessarily rely fully on the lecturer, but computer assists learning. This is where the internet plays a major part of the students life, and software like word processer makes it easier for both students and lecturer.

• Learning can also be integrative where it stresses on authentic used of knowledge. Students learn language through computer mediation and classroom discussion.  The  Internet itself are in English and the majority of people use the internet, and indirectly promotes language learning.

• Learning is also much easier through email where students can exchange information and exchanging works between other  peers. Thus communication can be done through emails and also through social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

• Learning can also be behaviorist in nature , where students rely fully on lecturers. Lecturers will be the person who give lecture and notes while students listen.

3) Discuss how the concept of CALL are relevant to experience.

• In learning process, it can be deduced that integrative plays a major role in learning. Through integrative, it give students opportunity to actually discover by themselves and thus making students understand language better. It can be through drills and exercises through internet or using computer for classes.
  
  
  REFLECTIONS
  
  
  This task was given after we have learned the three stages of CALL which are behaviorist, communicative and integrative. The task was to apply the stages into experience and from the task; we learn how to relate the theory in real life. Thus, through this, we will know what to teach and what approach is suitable.
